Welcome to the new Lahmacun Radio Studio Tutorial!
In this document you can find all the information that you need to set up and work in the studio to your needs.

Overview

As you can see, the studio runs in a matrix of different equipment of course.

On the top of the picture you can see the DJ equipment.
On the sides and bottom, our soundsystem.
In the middle the basic recording setup: The mics, the mixer and the laptop.

Basics

In order to make things work instantly and properly, the studio is set up in a very easy to understand way.
Your inputs (mics, dj equipment, laptop, etc) goes into the main mixer (the Zoom L-12), which is connected to our laptop (which is a macbook). The audio, if streaming goes from the laptop to the interwebs, and in the studio from the mixer to the soundsystem. It's that simple!

Setting up

Okay. So in the studio room, on the big table we have the mixer, the laptop, the mics' island.

We also have a pair of vinyl players, a pair of xdjs', and a dj mixer.
You can connect microphones into input 1 to 8, and two sets of stereo signals (either dj equipment or a different laptop for instance).
It has individual faders for each channel, so you can adjust their volume in the mix.
It also has individual GAIN and COMPRESSION on the mic channels (1-8), and EQ for all the channels.
We suggest to have the GAIN potmeters around 12 o'clock, and the COMP potmeters between 12 and 3 o'clock for optimal sound during your session.

Turning the system on

As shown on the main diagram above, the numbers show you the order of turning on the equipment:

1. After turning the mixer on, mute the MAINs so the soundsystem wont pop from electricity.
2. Turn on the soundsystem in the foyer with the power extender.
3. Unmute the mixer.
4. Check your signal levels on the mixer and in BUTT on the laptop. red is bad, orange is okay!

Mixer

This is our mixer, the Zoom L-12. It's a digital mixer - so it works as an interface and a standalone mixer as well.
You can connect 8 mics or else, and two sets of stereo inputs.
It has two kinds of outputs for monitoring: Main outputs, that go to the soundsystem, and headphone outputs.
